Why it made this week's list
For families planning 30–120 days ahead, late October through November deserves a look. Riviera Nayarit begins transitioning away from its wetter summer pattern, while the busiest winter weeks have not fully arrived. That can create an appealing middle ground between weather and potential hotel pricing.
There is a tradeoff: the Eastern Pacific hurricane season officially runs through November 30, although its highest activity normally comes earlier, particularly July through September. Families wanting the safest weather bet may prefer late November into winter instead.
Conrad Punta de Mita is especially interesting for a week because it works both as a resort vacation and as a base for Sayulita, San Pancho, surfing, and the Marietas Islands. That flexibility makes seven nights easier to fill without feeling rushed.
Why families may like it
This is a good fit for families who want a polished resort but don’t want the children merely tolerated. Conrad has a family pool, splash zone, waterslide, arcade, kids’ room, and complimentary Turi Kids Club access for ages 5–12. Parents also have adult-only pools, a spa, and quieter spaces.
Older children and teens gain more from the destination itself: surfing, paddleboarding, boating, snorkeling, and exploring Sayulita.
Rooms start generously sized, while suites and multi-bedroom accommodations give families more room to spread out. Connecting rooms are also listed among the hotel’s available features.
The main drawback is location. This is not a resort where you casually walk into town. Exploring Riviera Nayarit generally means arranging a car, driver, taxi, or tour.
Hotel overview
Conrad Punta de Mita sits along a two-mile stretch of Pacific beach about 45 minutes from Puerto Vallarta International Airport. The mood is upscale but noticeably family-friendly rather than hushed or formal.
The resort has three outdoor pools, including family-oriented areas, a splash pad and waterslide, plus adults-only options. Its beach adds another place to slow down between excursions. Tennis, basketball, fitness facilities and water activities give active families plenty to do.
Rooms have private terraces or balconies, and the suite collection stretches to multi-bedroom layouts. Select suites include plunge pools; those features are not standard in every accommodation.
Dining ranges from family-friendly poolside pizza, burgers and tacos at Paleta to more elaborate Mexican dining. The resort currently lists seven restaurants and bars. Spa treatments and a traditional temazcal give adults a strong reason to trade off childcare time.
One important distinction: Conrad Punta de Mita is not inherently an all-inclusive resort. Meals and extras depend on the rate or package you book.
Best for
Families wanting an easy resort stay
Pools, beach, waterslide and children’s activities can easily fill several days. Less ideal if your priority is walking to restaurants every evening.
Families with children ages 5–12
They hit the sweet spot for complimentary Turi Kids Club access plus the resort’s splash and play facilities.
Families with teens
Surfing, paddleboarding, boating and Sayulita give teens options beyond a traditional kids’ program.
Multigenerational families
Multi-bedroom suites, resort downtime and excursions with different activity levels make the area flexible. Large accommodations can cost considerably more.
Parents who want some luxury too
Adult pools, spa treatments and stronger dining options mean the trip does not have to revolve entirely around children.
Riviera Nayarit, Mexico
Riviera Nayarit stretches along roughly 200 miles of Mexico’s Pacific coast, backed in places by jungle-covered hills and the Sierra Madre. Rather than one resort strip, it is a collection of beach communities with noticeably different personalities.
From Conrad Punta de Mita, three areas are especially worth your time.
Punta de Mita is the quieter home base: beaches, resorts, water sports and access to the Marietas Islands.
Sayulita brings much more energy. Surf schools, colorful streets, cafés, boutiques and a busy beach make it fun for older children and teens. It can also feel crowded compared with the resort.
San Pancho, officially San Francisco, has a slower, artsier feel. Riviera Nayarit tourism calls it the region’s cultural capital, with galleries, community organizations and local food rather than a large-resort atmosphere.
The Marietas Islands are the standout natural excursion. The protected park has reefs, seabirds and marine life, including blue-footed boobies. Hidden Beach access is tightly controlled and depends on permits, sea conditions and operating days, so never build the entire excursion around reaching that one beach.
Things to do with children
Islas Marietas boat trip — ages 8+ | half day
Snorkeling, birds and dramatic island scenery. Hidden Beach requires controlled access and swimming through a tunnel; reserve with an authorized operator.
Beginner surf lesson — ages 7+ | 2 hours
Try Sayulita or Punta de Mita. Riviera Nayarit specifically promotes both for lessons; conditions determine suitability.
Explore Sayulita — 3–5 hours
Combine the beach, colorful streets, boutiques and lunch.
San Pancho — half day
A quieter alternative with murals, galleries and community spaces.
Resort pool day — all ages | flexible
Waterslide, splash zone and family pool make this more than downtime.
Turi Kids Club — ages 5–12 | flexible
Useful when parents want spa or adult-pool time. Confirm current hours when you arrive.
Paddleboarding — older kids/teens | about 2 hours
A gentler alternative to surfing when ocean conditions cooperate.
Whale watching — winter | about 4 hours
Best roughly mid-December through March; sightings are never guaranteed.

Best time to visit
November through April generally offers the easiest combination of drier conditions, warm temperatures and outdoor-friendly days. Winter is also the busiest period, particularly Christmas, New Year and spring break.
May into early summer can provide warmer weather with fewer winter visitors before the wettest portion of summer.
Summer through early fall is hotter, more humid and rainier. Afternoon or evening showers are common, and ocean conditions can affect boat trips. The Eastern Pacific hurricane season officially runs May 15–November 30, with activity historically strongest during summer into early fall.
Whale watching adds another reason for a winter trip: Riviera Nayarit tourism places the main season from roughly mid-December through March.
Best overall: December–April
Best value: May or late October–November, depending on rates
Best weather: January–March
Best for fewer crowds: May or November outside holidays
Approach carefully: August–October because of heat, rain and tropical-weather risk
Family travel tips
Fly into PVR. Puerto Vallarta International Airport is about 41 km/25 miles from Conrad; the hotel estimates approximately 45 minutes and can arrange paid transfers.
Choose transportation before arrival. You can stay happily on property without a rental car, but Sayulita, San Pancho and other outings require transportation.
Reserve the Marietas early. Playa del Amor has limited access and specific operating days. Sea conditions can cancel access even when you hold a reservation.
Ask about room location. Families with naps or early bedtimes may prefer being away from evening event areas while still reasonably close to the family pool.
Expect strong Pacific sun. Bring sun-protective clothing in addition to sunscreen, especially for boat days. Protected-area rules at Islas Marietas also regulate what visitors can bring and use.
Important things to know before booking
It is not automatically all-inclusive. Check exactly what your selected rate includes before comparing it with an all-inclusive resort.
Kids Club ages matter. Complimentary Turi Kids Club access is currently advertised for children ages 5–12; confirm hours, supervision rules and any session limits for your dates.
Airport transfers cost extra unless your package says otherwise. Conrad can arrange transportation from PVR. Select suite offers may include transfers, but that should not be assumed for standard bookings.
Fall weather carries risk. Eastern Pacific hurricane season continues through November 30, so flexible cancellation terms and travel insurance deserve extra consideration for late-summer and fall stays.
Confirm occupancy before choosing a room. Capacities vary considerably among standard rooms and larger suites.
Final thoughts
Conrad Punta de Mita works best for families who want a resort vacation without spending seven straight days inside the resort.
You can have the easy days — breakfast, pool, waterslide, beach, kids club and sunset — then change the pace completely with a surf lesson in Sayulita, a boat ride toward the Marietas Islands or an afternoon exploring San Pancho.
That balance is what makes a full week here appealing.
The biggest consideration is cost. This is a luxury resort, dining is generally separate from the room rate, and excursions add up. Families primarily looking for an inexpensive all-inclusive experience have better options elsewhere.
But if the hotel rate makes sense for your dates, Conrad Punta de Mita gives you something harder to find: a genuinely family-friendly resort that still feels special for the adults, paired with a destination worth leaving the hotel to explore.
